Façonnable stands for the spirit of the French Riviera and is characteristic for its eye-catching colour palette, rich history and unmistakable style. Façonnable is a French luxury retailer specializing in tailored men's and women's clothing. Jean Goldberg founded the company in 1950 in Nice, France as a small custom tailor shop. By the end of the 1950 the shop became so widely well-known that they were tailoring custom tuxedos and gowns for Hollywood stars that visited the Cote d'Azur to attend the annual Cannes Film Festival. The year of 1961 means a great change for the company, because it was taken over by Goldberg's son, Albert, who renamed it Façonnable. The word comes from "Façonner," meaning "to create." He placed an accent on prêt-à-porter segment of production. The company grew rapidly and opened its boutique in such cities as Monte Carlo, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Lyon, Marseilles and Paris. In 1988 Façonnable expanded even overseas - to the United States thanks to an exclusive agreement with Nordstrom. Soon after that the first US boutique in New York was opened. Two new boutiques on the West Coast in Beverly Hills and in Costa Mesa followed. On top of products for men, the company also added a whole line of clothing and accessories for women. In 2000 the company was sold to Nordstrom Inc., and in late 2007 to Lebanese private equity group M1 Group.
